SA: FBI supports Hicks' torture allegations, says Mori

Allegations that Australian terrorist suspect DAVID HICKS was tortured at Guantanamo
Bay have been supported by a person with links to the FBI.

The unidentified person has detailed visits to the detention facility where inmates
were witnessed chained in a foetal position on the floor, with no food or water.

In a document dated August 2004 and referred to in an overnight US federal court ruling,
the witness says most times detainees had urinated or defecated on themselves, and had
been left there for 18 to 24 hours or more.

The court judgment says the witness was someone apparently affiliated with the Federal
Bureau of Investigation.

In an affidavit signed last August, HICKS said he and other detainees had been forced
to run in leg shackles that regularly ripped the skin off their ankles, and that he'd
been beaten and deprived of sleep.

The Australian government has consistently maintained it has no evidence to support
the abuse claims.

HICKS' US military-appointed lawyer, Major MICHAEL MORI, says the FBI witness's evidence
can't be disputed.
